In order to achieve a functional and appropriate design, it is imperative to have a comprehensive understanding of the city. To this end, we conducted a thorough data collection process, which included gathering information on various climatic factors such as humidity and wind patterns, etc. to apply in our sustainable design . Such data is crucial in informing our base design strategy, as it directly impacts the future design of our project. After taking into consideration the potential of our site, which includes convenient access, a large amount of green space, the North-South orientation of the building, and existing architectural features, our team were determined that the current blood sample building located within the complex of the grand Piacenza hospital site was the most appropriate location for choosing our project. Subsequently, we conducted a detailed analysis of the site from multiple perspectives. Furthermore, it is important to note that the hospital is situated in a historic location and has a slight slope towards the north and Po River.

The chosen site location is in Piacenza, (Italy). It is located on the north-west, a bit away from the historic center of Piacenza.

The site is prominently surrounded by lush greenery. It has two green garden spaces on either side of the building. Therefore it has potential to have invitation sense.

In order to enhance the design, it is essential to possess a comprehensive understanding of the diverse range of individuals who will be the audience of our project, as well as their specific requirements and demands.

In our design, the various range of people from children to elderly are considered and some specific characteristics like divorced or depressed patients are included in our target.

The concepts are classified and affected by five categories:

We have access to green space from both sides which embrace the building. By having this opportunity, we considered to use it as health gardens. In this regard, the accurate typology of health care gardens were adapted after appropriate research.

Our volume is combination of three different volumes. In this regard, our approach was to reduced weight of the volume by increasing the glass in the envelope of the building and have accessible green spaces from the building by excavating the earth in front of the side wings and provide more light to it.

.

Extraordinary climate condition with hot summer and low wind flow in two different direction. Using this character to provide space for winter gardens and private garden during the summer.

This diagram sums up the sustainable strategies we have in our design. We used the existing chimneys in the building to transform it into wind catchers. The air is thrown in and sucked out through ducts that run through all the floors of the building as shown. The building consists of a winter garden attached to the building as a greenhouse. The greenhouse has operable doors and windows which In the summer let the cool air in and will be closed in the winters to have seasonable shading devices on the top to let out the hot air. The doors also provide privacy to the basement areas and can be closed when is necessary.
